  • Contact the Education Team to discuss possible options to meet teacher requirements and student needs (such as booking a Zoo host to accompany your group on the day).
  • Plan unit in conjunction with a member of the Education Team (adapting pre-planned units or developing new ones).
  • We provide you with booking confirmation, information and activity sheets, maps of Hamilton Zoo and resource booklets.
  • Your visit to the Zoo might come at the start of your unit to generate interest, questions and thinking; or in the middle, after students have engaged in some exploration of facts and ideas.  Even if your visit is the culmination of an entire unit of study, the experience will inevitably generate plenty of discussion and reflection that will lead to deeper learning.
  • When you arrive on the big day you will be welcomed at reception, where payment can be made or an invoice made out to the school ($5.00 per person).
  • Check notices and keeper talk times for the day, stow bags under shelter, and meet up with a representative from the Education Team.
  • Depending on what you have planned either begin exploring the Zoo or head straight into the Education Room.
  • Classroom sessions are held in our recently refurbished classroom and are usually 30 - 45 minutes in duration.  These have to be booked and planned in advance.
  • As groups move around the Zoo (accompanied by an adult) they may have activities to complete or keeper talks to attend.
  • Whilst at the Zoo enjoy a picnic in one of the many beautiful areas around the Zoo, or at the BBQ tables in front of the cafĂ© overlooking the playground.
