The arrival of a male serval last month adds to a growing number of new faces here at Hamilton Zoo.  The serval named Akida (meaning 'leader'), who recently turned three years old, was transferred here from Wellington Zoo as part of the managed breeding programme for the African wild cat species.

"We are excited to welcome Akida to Hamilton Zoo as it has been a number of years since we have housed servals here.  In the future we could potentially look to acquire a female serval in the hopes that they will form a breeding pair," said Hamilton Zoo Director Stephen Standley.

Akida is settling in well to his new home and didn't appear to be fazed at all by his move.
